My Introduction - by Annie

Hello, blog. My name is Annie. I am the oldest of the four Atkin sisters. I am a flute teacher (and mostly a homemaker) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I moved here when my husband started graduate school at UNC. We live so far away from all the other sisters!

Things I like: food. Easy crafts. Modern art. Homemade instruments. Kites. Apples. Babies. Exercise. Relief Society. Craigslist (and the DI, when I am in Utah!). The smell of oranges. Photos from my childhood. Graphic design. Laughing until I wail. Feeding people. Paul Simon. Getting packages or personal mail. Shopping, any kind. Performing on my flute for children. Trader Joes. Satire. Teaching. Proper elocution and long words. Languages. Practical environmentalism. Planning things. Coupons and sales. Antiques. Helping my sisters and mother with their projects. Getting dressed up. Homemade granola bars. Murder mystery parties. Naps. Handmade paper. Tulips. Vanilla. Making fine cakes. Talking. The sound of a pressure-sealed jar being opened. My husband. Eternal families. Blogging!

Annie's Challenge: 5/18/09

All right everyone, come out from under your rocks and out of your holes! I thought I'd start off our collaborative blog by inviting everyone to introduce themselves to our blog. Get writin'!

In the Beginning...

There were four daughters born to a woman named Cindy. Their names were Annie, Amy, Rachel and April. They loved each other very much, but they had a hard time all being together because of the different paths their lives took.

These five women were project-oriented by nature. Each had a crazy multiplicity of talents and projects and ideas to share. So, they have started a collaborative blog.

Each week, one of the five will take a turn proposing a small project for each member of the group to do - something to read, something to make, something to cook, something to think about, something to share. Sometime over the course of the week, each of the women will write in about their projects. No post is too short, and no post is too long. The only rule is that we are kind and enthusiastic about each others projects and ideas.

Sister Marjorie Hinckley said: “Oh, how we need each other. Those of us who are old need you who are young. And, hopefully, you who are young need some of us who are old. It is a sociological fact that women need women. We need deep and satisfying and loyal friendships with each other.”

In order to continue sharing experiences in spite of the distance between us and the business of our lives, let us begin the experiment of doing things together - today!
